Review: Nivea Double Effect Eye Make-Up Remover

Review Summary:
a)    Cleans well
b)   Does not leave an oily reside and it doesn’t make my skin feel dry after using it.
c)    Quite difficult to close the cap properly.
d)   No pointed tip so it is hard to apply a proper amount on cotton pad.
e)   Does not irritates the eyes.
I’ve always been using my Shiseido The Skincare instant eye and lip makeup remover and I love it as it does the job, it does not irritate my eyes and it doesn’t leave an oily residue. However, the Shiseido makeup remover is a bit pricey so recently switched to a drugstore brand and bought Nivea Double Effect Eye Make-Up Remover.
The purple part is the oil phase and the transparent part is the aqueous phase.
The purple part is the oil phase and the transparent part is the aqueous phase.
I prefer makeup remover that has both oil and aqueous phase it in. Oil based makeup remover like the Shu Uemura skin purifier leaves an oily reside which irritates me and water based makeup remover like the La Roche Posay’s makeup remover makes my skin feel really dry.
According to the bottle:
a)    The oil phase effectively removes even waterproof mascara and eye make-up. Specially formulated and tested for sensitive eye area.
b)   The aqueous phase protects and cares for the eye lashes with it’s caring formula, without leaving an oily reside.
The trick in using a makeup remover that has both oil and aqueous phase is to shake well. Shake VIGOROUSLY till you see bubbles forming before applying it to a cotton pad. On the bright side, it looks really pretty with its purple oil phase and it turns into indigo colour after a good shake.
I think the colour is pretty cool! Feels like I am making a potion.

The oil phase and the water phase will separate after a while.

I didn’t like the cap though. It was difficult to close it properly and I once shook it while the cap was loosely closed. It was a disaster and there was makeup remover everywhere.
The flat base was annoying.
The flat base was annoying.
I prefer the pointed tip of the Shiseido makeup remover, as it is easier to control the amount to apply on cotton pads or cotton buds. The flat top of the Nivea double effect causes the makeup remover to reside on its surface and it was difficult to control the amount of liquid poured out, relatively speaking.
The pointed tip makes it easier for me to apply the remover on cotton bud.

But at the price of £3.29, it does its jobs, though a tad bit less efficient than my Shiseido, so I am pretty satisfied with this product.

Eye Palette Review

When I saw the new Urban Decay Electric Palette, I instantly fell in love. I'm not one to wear crazy bright neon eye colors on the daily, but how can you not swoon at those supercharged hues? Since it wouldn't be a palette that I'd be using every day, I couldn't justify the $50 price tag and decided to pass it up (sadly...*tears*).

A few weeks ago, I was looking around Coastal Scents online for some new makeup brushes. I decided to check out the eye palettes because why not? A girl can always use a new eye palette. ;) I stumbled upon their Creative Me #1 Palette, and noticed something familiar. It was bright, bold, neon....and looked exactly like the Urban Decay palette!

After comparing this palette with the one on the Urban Decay site, it was clear that this would be the perfect dupe. And imagine my excitement when I looked at the price and saw a lovely $14.95 staring back at me...much more affordable than $50! :) I ordered it, waited patiently, and tore into it when it arrived. I was instantly pleased with the bright neon colors in real life - they're very pigmented and rich. Swatching them on my fingers, the colors took instantly with barely any swiping and they were very velvety and not chalky at all.

Now, I can't vouch for the quality of the UD palette compared to this because I don't own it (although I do own other UD eye products and the quality is superb), but I can say that the quality and intensity of these pigments is fantastic. Plus, for the amount of money you'll save, this is hard to pass up!

I knew when I got this palette and saw how killer it was, I'd have to share it for anyone else wanting a good collection of neon shadows without having to take a chunk out of their bank account. I'm excited to experiment with these colors like crazy, especially now that summer is here. Maybe a beachy neon look, or a sunset-inspired look for a summer party? What do you guys think?
